April 29, 2024 | Stefan and Thomas Bürkle accepted the prestigious Seifriz Award 2024 on behalf of Bürkle + Schöck Transformatoren GmbH.
The award recognizes the successful transfer of knowledge between craftsmanship and science. The innovative Stuttgart-based electrical engineering company Bürkle + Schöck was able to prevail in cooperation with the Institute for Power Transmission and High Voltage Technology at the University of Stuttgart, from a total of 21 qualified applicants. The joint development of the world’s unique XXL air coils for certified power measurement of wind turbines was honored.
Thomas Bürkle welcomed the guests present and thanked, above all, the dedicated Bürkle + Schöck employees for their commitment, which had made such an outstanding project possible. Reiner Reichhold, President of the Chamber of Crafts and Trades Region Stuttgart, Chairman of the Technology Transfer Handwerk e.V. (TTH e.V.) and jury member of the Prof. Adalbert Seifriz Prize, highlighted the high symbolic impact of this award, especially with a view to energy transition, to which Bürkle + Schöck is making a valuable contribution with its innovations. The solution-oriented approach of the two project partners “on equal terms” was also mentioned specifically, whereby both craftsmanship and research benefit to the maximum.
The Chairman of the Board of the Steinbeis Foundation and jury member of the Seifriz Prize, Prof. Dr. Michael Auer, emphasized how much he and the entire foundation were pleased to be achieving attention through this award. Attention, as in this case, specifically for the electrical craft and its central role in the energy transition. This starts with the generation of renewable energies, where, without craftsmanship, nothing would work at all. In addition, Prof. Dr. Auer also praised the outstanding cooperation between Bürkle + Schöck and the Institute for Power Transmission and High Voltage Technology at the University of Stuttgart, which was represented at the award ceremony by the head of the project, Dr. Michael Beltle.
After the presentation of the prizes and certificates, a tour of the company, in particular the production facility, took place, where the visitors were able themselves to examine an XL air coil up close, albeit not the largest of its kind.
XXL Air Test Coils from Bürkle + Schöck – Innovation for Energy Transition
The XXL air test coils are a highly individual development that benefits the entire energy transition process. They enable effective and safe testing of wind turbines, where high voltages of up to 72 kV and high short-circuit currents of up to 3,000 Amperes can occur. Development of the coils is based on the successful combination of complex computer-aided simulations and practical tests. Voltage surges have been sustainably avoided through the optimal design of the coils. Bürkle + Schöck is the only company worldwide that possesses the electrical engineering expertise, the know-how, and the manufacturing capabilities to produce air test coils in this XXL format.
